Buzzcats Thailand who build the Buzzcat range of Power Catamarans is the result of ongoing research by the owner for a stable, seaworthy power replacement for his ocean going 50ft fast cruising/racing yacht. The Buzzcat concept incorporates spacious living areas on a stable platform with extended passage-making capabilities, yet compact enough to be berthed in normal marina pens and handled by a minimum of crew, ideally a couple wishing to undertake extended cruising with or without their many friends.
The search led to the design capabilities of Gavin Mair, and the versatility of pre cut flat-pack alloy supply of Marinekits Australia Pty Ltd who provides both the design and the marine grade alloy sheets and sections required for construction. This method ensures compliance with the designers lofting as all components are precision pre cut using the latest plasma cutting processes which eliminate lofting errors and reduces construction costs and time, with fabrication commencing within a couple of days of material arrival at the boat yard.
The design is based on a long line of multi-hull fishing and oilfield supply vessels as well as commercial ferries all operating in the harsh conditions of the West Australian coast. The tunnel design together with long deep keels result in excellent tracking and sea handling capabilities together with, if necessary, the safe beaching of the vessel. The long keels also provide full protection for the drive and steering mechanisms of the vessel.
